Here’s a closer look at 2XKO’s cosmetic systems, the Battle Pass, Ranked play, and the Champion Mastery system.
From the very beginning of 2XKO’s development, our team has aimed to build a game that is enjoyable, fair, and completely free for everyone. To achieve this, we offer numerous ways to level up and earn in-game items. We also provide purchasable premium content at various price points, ensuring that players who wish to customize their experience have the opportunity to do so.
As a team, our commitment is to create an excellent game that anyone can play for free, while ensuring any premium content is a worthy investment of your time and money.
This article will break down 2XKO’s progression and personalization systems. Keep in mind that these systems will likely be adjusted and tweaked over time as we gather feedback and see what works best.
Progression
Progression systems are all the ways you can grow within 2XKO, whether it’s by earning XP, unlocking new content, or receiving rewards over time. Our goal is to keep the game feeling fresh and engaging, giving you new objectives to strive for beyond your next victory.
In-Game Currencies
There are three main types of in-game currency in 2XKO:
- Credits: This is a free, earnable currency you receive for completing missions, tutorials, and Combo Trials, as well as for playing in Casual and Ranked matches.
- Champion Tokens: These are earned by completing tutorials or can be acquired through Starter Editions. They can be exchanged to unlock champions.
- KO Points (KP): This is a premium currency that can only be purchased with real money. Many items can be bought with either Credits or KO Points, allowing you to unlock certain cosmetics simply by playing the game.
Credits can be used to acquire a wide range of content, including chromas, stages, champions, avatar items, and Champion Mastery rewards. You can hold a maximum of 12,000 Credits. This currency is designed to be spent—we want you to feel comfortable using it frequently without having to choose between buying cosmetics and saving up for the next champion.
Battle Pass
Starting with Season 0, every season will feature a Battle Pass with rewards you can unlock by completing missions and earning Battle Pass XP. Players can also purchase levels directly using KO Points.
The Battle Pass includes two tracks:
- Free Track: Offers a limited selection of the season’s available rewards.
- Premium Track: A purchasable upgrade that gives you access to all Battle Pass rewards for the season.
The first reward on the Premium Battle Pass will be a new stage, though this may change in future seasons.
Three Premium Battle Pass bundles are available in the store:
- Standard Bundle: Grants access to the Premium Battle Pass track.
- Deluxe Bundle: Includes access to the Premium track plus 10 Battle Pass levels.
- Ultra Bundle: Provides access to the Premium track, 10 Battle Pass levels, a new champion with chromas, and the complete launch skin set. The specific contents of the Ultra bundle may vary from season to season.
After a season concludes, the launch skin will be added to the pool of cosmetics available in the rotating store. Reaching the end of the Battle Pass unlocks Epilogue levels, which offer additional rewards. These bonus levels require more XP and cannot be purchased with KO Points.
Missions
You can earn Credits and Battle Pass XP by playing matches and completing missions. There are three daily missions that refresh each day and three weekly missions that accumulate throughout the season. This system allows players who join later in a season to catch up quickly. You can track your progress anytime in the Progression tab.
Champions
Starting in 2026, each season of 2XKO will introduce a new champion. Season 0’s champion, Warwick, can be unlocked with Credits, KO Points, a Champion Token, or as part of the Ultra Battle Pass bundle.
Beginning with Season 1 in 2026, new champions will be available for the first three weeks through:
- Champion Recruitment Events: A free path to unlock the champion.
- Store Purchase: For 1,000 KO Points.
- Champion Token: Exchange one token.
- Ultra Battle Pass Bundle.
During a Champion Recruitment Event, you can earn the new champion for free by gaining Battle Pass XP. This event is separate from the Battle Pass, so you don’t need the Premium version to participate. After the initial three weeks, the champion can be unlocked with 10,000 Credits, 1,000 KO Points, or one Champion Token.
If you want to test a new champion before unlocking them, they are available for everyone in Training and Offline modes.
Champion Mastery
The Champion Mastery system is designed to reward your dedication to specific champions while encouraging you to try new ones. By completing challenges for each champion, you will gain Mastery levels and unlock exclusive rewards that can be purchased with Credits. While challenges reset each season, your Mastery levels and unlocked rewards are permanent.
Ranked
For those seeking competitive play, the Ranked lobby is the place to be. When you first enter, you will play five placement matches to determine your starting rank.

Winning matches in Ranked earns you Ranked Points (RP). Accumulate 100 RP to climb to the next tier. At the end of each season, you will receive rewards based on the highest rank you achieved.
The Ranked tiers are as follows, from lowest to highest:
- Aspirant
- Iron
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Emerald
- Diamond
- Master
- Grandmaster
- Challenger
Each rank from Iron to Diamond is divided into three tiers (e.g., Iron I, Iron II, Iron III). To reach the Challenger leaderboard, you must first reach 500 RP in Grandmaster and be among the top 100 players with the most points above that threshold.
You can queue with a friend of any rank (duo), but be aware that this may place you against tougher opponents. RP gains are also slightly reduced in these pairings to prevent boosting.
Personalization
While progression is about what you achieve, personalization is about how you express yourself. This includes skins, emotes, and other visual customizations. These items are completely optional, but we are committed to making sure they are a worthwhile addition to your collection.
Cosmetics
Here is a rundown of the cosmetic types available in 2XKO:
- Chromas: These are alternate color palettes for base champions and skins. Chromas can be unlocked with Credits, purchased with KO Points, or earned through the Battle Pass.
- Skin Sets: These sets often include skins, avatar accessories, and player cards. Skins alter a champion’s appearance with new designs, and some even feature unique visual or audio effects.
- Stages: Customize the background environment of your matches with themes from the world of Runeterra.
- Stickers & Emotes: Express yourself in lobbies using a wheel of customizable stickers and emotes.
- Avatar Accessories: Personalize your player avatar with different outfits, hairstyles, and other items in the Avatar Studio.
- Taunts: Each champion has several unique taunts you can use before or during a match.
- Finishers: These customize the final KO screen with new animations, camera angles, and sound effects.
- Player Cards and Titles: Change the header on your player profile to show off your achievements.
Megabundles & Editions
Megabundles contain multiple cosmetic items at a discounted price. Each season will feature themed Megabundles with premium items like high-tier skins and finishers. Often, you can purchase items individually or buy the full bundle for bonus content.
Editions are premium bundles purchased with real money. The Arcane-inspired Starter Editions, for example, are available until the end of 2026 and include skins, Champion Tokens, and KO Points to kickstart your journey.
